I had first watched this movie when I was about 10 or 11 years old and it was mesmerizing to say the least. I'm actually 15 at the moment and I rewatched this movie 2 nights ago with my 11 year old sister. I do agree with the film being at least PG-13 though, there are some scenes that kids don't need to see. Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart fails to do this.Īlright just letting everyone know, this is my favorite movie so this is a bit biased, but in all honesty, the movie isn't as bad as everyone says! Everyone has to remember that the movie is dubbed from french and its a complete french film, so of course some lines may sound a bit off. It's fine in my opinion for a film aimed at children to contain deep/philosophical/political references, but it should also meet the desires of its intended audience. The film is certainly deep and meaningful (albeit in a rather strange sort of way) but would probably be much better suited to an older or adult audience who will be able to appreciate it more. The best word to describe the film is "weird" all the hidden meanings in the animation fail to reach most of its target audience and instead make it feel like a rather odd dream you might have. If your child is mature then they are unlikely to be disturbed by this film, but they probably just won't find it interesting. We are also welcomed into the movie by a live birth scene, though it isn't really graphic. Parents should know that there are mild sexual references throughout the film (though these are hardly obvious even for adult viewers), as well as some scenes that may be frightening for younger or more sensitive children (including a man singing a song about murdering people and Jack being bullied and physically hurt by his classmates).
